Proposal to build the project "Ben Tre coconut value chain"

​On July 28, 2020, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Truc Son had a meeting with Nafoods Group Joint Stock Company on the project "Ben Tre coconut value chain".

At the meeting, Nafoods Group proposed to invest in the province a complex manufacturing of coconut value chain with a total area of about 30ha, including the factory for coconut producing and processing, a raw material area of pure organic coconut and housing for workers, in combination with tourism development. The capacity of phase one is about 300-400 tons of nuts per day, producing nine to ten thousand tons of coconut powder and many other products from coconut. The project location is proposed in Giong Trom district.

According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Truc Son, coconut is the province’s strength and the sector of investment attraction and promotion. The province’s coconut products have been exported to many countries in the world, with export turnover of coconut products at more than 200 million US dollars per year.

The project idea is evaluated to be quite comprehensive and is a fairly new type of business in combination with tourism development, suited to the sector considered for development. Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Truc Son suggested the company complete the project idea, conduct surveys and research the appropriate project location. In which, the overall project area needs to be redefined so as to suit for the capacity; the construction of raw material area should be combined with the province’s coconut development program.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to select the forms of production link with farmers, develop organic areas through cooperatives and cooperative groups. The Department of Planning and Investment, Ben Tre Center for Start-up and Investment Promotion are the focal points to support enterprises to access policies and complete investment procedures as prescribed.
