​Tuyen Linh Pagoda was built in the Lunar year of Chicken (1861), the Tu Duc 14th year of Reign, beside the Tan Huong ditch in Minh Duc commune, Mo Cay district. The Pagoda is a place of many remarkable historic events. At first, it was named Tien Linh Pagoda, and later renamed Tuyen Linh.

As far back as early 17th century, the Ben Tre region was a completely wild land with marshes and woods intermingled with a grid of ditches and rivulets. Then, waves of migration throughout 17th and 18th centuries had been gradually forming the most fundamental basis for later developments of Ben Tre province. It was those migrants from many parts of Viet Nam, who came to Ben Tre on their long treks to look for "the land of goodness", that have contributed to the diversity and richness in knowledge, professionism, work experiences, life styles, cultural customs and practices, etc of today's Ben Tre.​

Located at the endstream of Mekong River, Ben Tre is one of the 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta. It shares borders with provinces such as Tien Giang to the north, Tra Vinh to the south and southwest, and Vinh Long to the west, and it has a coastline with the East Sea to the east.

Nguyen Dinh Chieu, alias Manh Trach, Trong Phu, Hoi Trai, was born on July 01, 1822, in Tan Thoi village, Binh Duong district, Gia Dinh province, now Cau Kho ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. He was the son of a poet and official at the Cultural Services under General Le Van Duyet. His mother was Truong Thi Thiet, a Gia Dinh woman. As a young boy, Nguyen Dinh Chieu had chances to witness and realize the social chaos at the time.​

Lieutenant general Dong Van Cong is one of the 12 military generals, and one of the 3 lieutenant generals of Ben Tre province. He was born in February, 1918, in Tan Hao commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province. Born into a farmer family, he joined the Revolution movement as early as 1936, and was admitted into the Communist Party in 1939. In 1945, he was Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, took part in the people’s movement to topple the local puppet government

He was born in February, 1918, in Tan Hao commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province.
